The Netherlands Built a Nix-Based Linux Desktop Because Microsoft Cut Off the ICC 「 All of DAWO's code is hosted on a Forgejo instance, with a separate Codeberg instance acting as the entry point for contributors. And, to answer the question asked earlier, NixOS was chosen because it is a Dutch project, with no company owning or controlling its development 」

@jbz This is BIG. Netherlands building its own Nix-based desktop after Microsoft cut off ICC... that's real digital sovereignty.
And choosing NixOS because no company owns it 100% Dutch, 100% community. Respect.

@jbz@indieweb.social are the people who worked on this at #nixcon this weekend?

@jbz Well well well, if it isn’t the consequences of Microsoft’s own actions…

@sourav666 What's a @Codeberg instance? https://codeberg.org/DAWO looks like it's run by the Codeberg organisation; it's not Codeberg software (whatever that is) run on a server uncontrolled by Codeberg-the-organisation ... Maybe an edit is needed?

@boud @jbz @sourav666 @Codeberg
The Dutch government ( #overheid) hosts its own #Forgejo instance. But only people with an account at the Dutch government can get access there. To facilitate collaboration with others, the development is done at #codeberg, the most well known Forgejo instance where everybody can get an account.
So at code.overheid.nl is a kind or mirror/backup fully controlled by Dutch government if I understand well:

@jbz Amazing news and quite inspiring. Recently started working for a Dutch library org that I want to shift to NixOS too. This'll help the argumentation. I am in the R&D phase of making a config for public facing PC's we have at libraries.

The author @sourav666 's Fedi account is stated to be inactive, so probably won't reply.

@jbz I **love** seeing stuff like this. Way too much innovation and development has stalled/stopped with our current status quo.
