I bet there's some kind of regs against flying *under* the bridges.
@gwhilts @cabel There are! There was a relatively well known aviation writer who had all of her certificates stripped for flying under a bridge.
However! This pilot has found the loophole. The regulation in question forbids flying any closer than 500 feet to any structure (1000 feet in congested areas), except when necessary for takeoff and landing.
This plane was taking off, so the exception applies. Nice loophole for being able to legally fly under a bridge.

@cabel Long way from the sea, little seaplane!

@cabel someone used to keep a float plane docked at the small marina on the west side just a block north of Willamette park, and they would take off and land on that stretch all the time. The river is so much wider down there, the winds are less disrupted, and the distance between the Sellwood and Ross Island bridges is several miles, so that was waaaay less sketchy than this!

@cabel Those two facts may be related. Given how close the bridges are to each other, it might be difficult to take off without such acrobatics.

@cabel Looking at his climb I feel the correct decision was made.
Dip, fly under, and awaaaay...
Avoid the more than likely mess on the side of this bridge. -

@cabel Not exactly the highest of bridges to pull that maneuver under…
