️ Apparently there's a scammer sending out messages "offering a partnership" if people "verify" their account at a special link. They may use a profile icon that looks like the Mastodon logo with a headset.
The account is fake, the link is a scam, do not click on it. There is no "partnership" scheme on here, you cannot earn money for posting.
If you get one of these messages, click the ... icon on the scam post and then click "report".

@FediTips you can get money for posting, it's just not official, not paid by Mastodon gGmbH, not much like 5 ct per post and in many countries it's not legal. payment is in bitcoin or by some shady "culture club" with or without a line over several nodes to some government.
So if someone with technical expertise gets such a message on a throwaway account and feels brave... would be interesting if it's just some ordinary scam or if there are more interesting actors behind.

So if someone with technical expertise gets such a message on a throwaway account and feels brave... would be interesting if it's just some ordinary scam or if there are more interesting actors behind.
It is 100% a scam, it is using the same format and same profile picture as previous scams that tried to con people into "verifying" so their account could be "activated".
Verification doesn't work like that on Mastodon, they are just trying to con people into giving their card details.

They seem to bank on people vaguely seeing stuff about ID on news bulletins, and using that as a cover.

Please do report these and if you can see the option to forward the report select that option too, so that it goes to the server where the spammer's account is. (The scam accounts get shut down more quickly if reports are forwarded.)
