    With the days shortening and cooling in the northern hemisphere the #wildlife is busy preparing for the coming lean months of scarce food

    But these two #deer seem to have made some sort of evolutionary leap in cognitive planning skills

    Or they are evolving into snails

    I'm not sure

      @benroyce

      What I remember first and foremost, is don't drive in the dark in October/November (rutting season for White Tail deer), lest ye hit those horny fuckers! 🦌 🙄

      I've been hit by two at dusk+ right here, in early November. So there's good reason why locals put those tubular steel bumpers on the front of their pickups: they do save money in the long run. 😉

        @chessert they are a menace at dusk and dawn

        a month back i crested a hill, spotted them immediately to the side but already too late for their annoying habit of going into the road in panic. luckily i wasn't going that fast and a trick of timing meant just as they leapt up my car hood scooped them up and onto their side. they slid right off and onward, unharmed and unfazed, and they bounded away

                Had tubular bumpers on Toyota 4x in SF. When parked on hill in front of my house, very entertaining to see tourists failing to parallel park and trashing their cars on those bumpers. They'd damage all kinds of parts, shatter their lights, panic, and flee. Barely a scratch on my absurd truck. Wouldn't have been so hilarious if they hadn't done the wrong thing like that. Not once in a decade did anyone leave a note even.

                          Yeah, I once saw an RV pulling in across the street, snag on a tree branch and just keep on driving, opened one whole side like a can of sardines. RV homeless issues weren't quite a thing yet so it was more of a head scratcher. People are crazy.

                                      Yeah, surreal at the time to see RV insulation and RV type goods flying out everywhere.
