The Trump administration is threatening Europe with economic retaliation for trying to reduce its dependence on Musk's Starlink.
Europe wants technological sovereignty, and Washington responds with threats.
From satellite communications to cloud services, AI and social media, Europe's dependence on US Big Tech threatens democracy and political independence.
When are we going to wake up?

Why should we give any concessions to someone who doesn’t keep their word, honour their agreements, or betrays their allies?
They promised us free trade, they gave us tariffs. They promised us security, they aided our enemy.
Let them cry.

Via Pekka Kallioniemi:
https://lnkd.in/p/d_VzCzySThe US's threat of limitless retaliation for the EU's attempting to gain a modest amount of independence from Elon Musk's Starlink is all the evidence needed that the EU needs far greater independence from any single source, let alone when that source is controlled by Elon Musk.

@leavex At long last, fire the damn bazooka. Stop mirroring the DMCA. Kick the US multinationals out of Ireland. 150% tariffs on everything made in (or serviced from) America.
-
@leavex And simultaneous we have a Russian satellite making multiple maneuvers in order to close to within literal double-digit meters of a US commercial satellite which is currently used for synthetic aperture surveillance for Ukraine. There's some real messaging going on with the regimes of both Russia and the US both showing how they have weaponized space to control the outcome of conflicts on Earth.
@Infoseepage @leavex ... like predicted for ... 20 years?

A zjevně není sama. Čím více bude Trump s Muskem vyhrožovat, tím rychlejší vývoj bude. -

️ The US threatens Europeans really bad things if you don't buy the technology they are currently manipulating to aid Russian in killing Europeans. -

@huntingdon There's a justifiable scale to nations contracting, after overt globalization, to the Mean - meaning pulling back over extended resources to locally rooted, regional infrastructure.
And while the EU has too broad of a leadership for quick, decisive geopolitical momentum; the core ethic of empowering locales, remains.

@leavex It isn't so difficult to remove US online services from your life. All I have left is my iPhone with an Apple account, which I will eventually replace. I really don't miss any of them.

@connynasch @leavex I hadn't thought about banking. I've managed to go as far as Triodos Bank. I'm sure they'll switch to the European payment processor that's being designed when it's up and running.
