Edited because I saw that I'd called it a windymill in the Alt Text. Reluctantly edited, because I quite like the sound of 'windymill' and may call them that from now on.

Alas, schools these days don't teach accurate windymillology.

It feels very Fediversey. Lots of people here have The Knowledge about something very niche and help out and share it when the need arises.

@CiaraNi Windymill is lovely. In Scotland, standing washing lines are called "whirlygigs", which I also love.
@icecolbeveridge Whirlygig is a great word. I've only known it in the sense of a carousel, like a fairground attraction, which isn't called for much in general conversation. I love the idea of it being a regular household word. And I can't believe the rest of us have been hanging out the washing on a boring old 'rotary line' when we could've been saying 'whirlygig' all along.
