      Random: Timeline

      Fruit Loops has never been spelled ‘F R U I T’ Loops.
      Fruit Loops has always been spelled ‘F R O O T’ Loops.
Yet you clearly recall it being spelled 'F R U I T' Loops.
      But it has always been spelled 'F R O O T' Loops.
      Always.
Okay, so maybe it’s just Kellogg’s changing the brand?
Fruit Loops all streamlined and dumbed down for the 21st century.
      Froot Loops.
      Nope.
      Always.
      Froot Loops.
Since the inception of the brand in 1963.
      Go ahead and check.
      Always.

@gabrielesvelto @990000 Yeah, every time I hear stuff like this, I worry that there will be a day when the phrase “the bubble popped” (to refer to the dot com bubble or the housing market bubble) will be thought of as quaint and cutesy compared to when this AI ‘bubble’ popping creates a black hole where entire economies are shredded at the atomic level and then sucked into the nothingness, and there is no escape.

Have a great Sunday everyone! 🥸🤡🥳

@gabrielesvelto This wasn't about reminding the guy of something but about having "fun" with an AI basically running amok on his computer. He got a reminder that it is not a good idea to have it running without supervision this way. And he got away cheaply. It could have burned his credit card buying on Amazon.

@gabrielesvelto Among other things, it's a pretty good example of how you need to understand how your tools actually work, because there are different tools for different jobs, when a major marketing pitch for "AI" is that it's an all-purpose tool and you don't need to understand how it works.

@gabrielesvelto In a programming class, I'd written a program that looped over a list multiple times, when I could have written it to just run through the list once. It took a half a second instead of a hundredth of a second. But, that's a few orders of magnitude, and in real-world applications, it adds up.

It's a common beginner's mistake that someone relying on "AI" tools wouldn't notice.

Why do people insist on asking ChatGPT to do a simple arithmetic calculation when there's a calculator app on their phone?

How did we end up in the timeline where instead of writing a note on a post-it and sticking it to the door one needs A HUNDRED THOUSAND GPUS WHICH COST A TRILLION DOLLARS AND BURN A TERAWATT OF POWER WHILE GIVING ZERO FUCKS ABOUT COPYRIGHT OR CONSENT?

@gabrielesvelto if you paid $20 for a book to teach you any other way to do that you paid too much but you would have to read the book

@gabrielesvelto don't worry soon Gemini will do it for free... Since we have already given Google our souls already, not sure what they will take in return for that....
