@aesthr I agree. I was really hoping it'd be a last stronghold minus the obvious kernel slop.

@fullywoolly it's also hard to believe the distro even matters if the kernel isself is tainted. I understand the frustration of the opposed Debian devs though. That must really suck to learn this way what your colleagues' actual values are

@aesthr same, but I fear there won't be a viable alternative given the number of at least somewhat important projects getting slopped down, including the kernel. Looking at how all the forks of various projects fared (attracted the wrong kind of people, stalled, questionable decisions, burned out the forkers…) doesn't give me much hope

I really hate this timeline.@kathakatze Debian is also a huge project. That's not easily forked. And a lot of other distros are based on it so those would be ruled out as well

@aesthr I'd say Debian cannot be forked entirely. Keeping out systemd or rejecting newer gnome shenanigans looks trivial in comparison.

@aesthr it's so fecking typical of the org, though.
The same network effect was there with previous controversial topics - curiously motivated people wanting to align with corporate values.

@aesthr Yeah that would be far worse. For me it's something I only used and having this feels like the rug being pulled out from under me. But to have people that you spent your precious time building something together is a whole different level of suckage. The word coming to mind for how it must feel is betrayal.
