So apparently Trump and DHS has been building miles of floating barriers in the rivers of Texas without regulation or scientific study.

So apparently Trump and DHS has been building miles of floating barriers in the rivers of Texas without regulation or scientific study. These one ton buoys are now breaking loose due to the recent heavy rains in TX. They are floating down river threatening to damage bridges and dams and whole communities.
I don’t understand what this line of buoys was supposed to keep out. People can swim under them… idiots. Complete idiots.
@gedeonm Everything anyone in his Administration does is something like this. They bulldoze ahead on whatever issue, regardless of the consequences or repercussions. Then they blame everyone/anyone else...

@JPZ Yes and SOMEHOW escape consequences. Infuriating.

@gedeonm
This is what happens when you have totally unqualified people making decisions, and unfortunately, it's probably only going to get worse. -

@gedeonm Not only can you swim under them, even better, these things actually provide cover during a crossing!

@gedeonm They have a mesh under them tethered to concrete blocks, so it’s not as dumb as it first looks. Though, they should’ve conducted an environmental study first, for sure.

@gedeonm you know inject bleach, use peroxide in the reflecting pool… lots of bright ideas.

@koen_hufkens As far as I can tell there’s absolutely no point to them except probably to line the pockets of some Trump crony company that makes them.

@gedeonm Being Texas one can anticipate that within a few weeks they will be riddled with bullet holes.
Which makes me wonder - what is inside? Air or something that would keep water out (and thus cause them to sink)?
I wonder what this costs (and I do remember that we taxpayers are paying.)

@gedeonm If you are a poor swimmer and use a flotation device you might get in trouble and drown (as you might not be able to dive under and take it with you). In this sense these things are cruel. But yes, the contractor angle is probably there as well.

So I'm guessing nobody checked to see that humans (and wildlife) weren't likely to get ensnared in that mesh and drowned? I mean, I know what MAGA's going to say to that, but do we know that the courts will agree that death is a valid punishment for attempted undocumented immigration? Bearing in mind that as cases rise up the hierarchy, they reach judges who aren't in Texas.

@RustyRing @gedeonm Oh it’s dumb since they did a rush job (as usual for this administration) but the point of “people can just swim under it” is totally not true.
