Internalized criticism is hard to undo. Especially when your only support network is the one that made the external criticism in the first place. So I'm not entirely sure on how to apply the "unrequited" advice, but guess I can meditate it

At another level, loving myself means wishing the best for me, which includes reaching my highest potential, so yes, I do want to improve, because I am worth it.
tl;dr: yes, loving myself leads to wanting to be a better person; but no, loving myself doesn't require any change until I am ready for it
