@skeletor That's a big case-by-case thing. Some people are just giant fucking losers who are going nowhere and trying to drag others down with them just so they can feel like they have a shred of power.
If you have ideas and dreams and projects, you're infinitely above these people and you should know that their words can only have as much substance as they themselves have, which is none, and you shouldn't even give them the power to offend you.

@skeletor It may sound conceited (and if it does, O well), but this is a big reason I'm sometimes an asshole online (not just IRL!). The Internet is in many ways a 'safe space' for such conflicts, because no real violence will result; some feelings might get hurt, but that's it. It's an environment in which people have an opportunity to learn some hard lessons about interactions with others BEFORE they make the same potentially dangerous mistakes IRL.

@renardboy It's often very difficult to assess others' state of mind and intent, never mind know the many factors behind it, but we're usually prepared to assess superficial conduct, which in all cases is relevant in interactions with others. These are lessons that everyone needs to learn, for their own good, no matter the reason for their conduct.

Their primary goal is to cease the objectionable conduct. If someone else learns from that, great. If they don't, at least the conduct is blunted.
