Hi I am new to Mastodon, I don't really know what I am doing here yet.
-
@withinity I follow a few gamedev and art people.
I am on mobile, so I can't add links atm, but if you like anti-ai and fantasy comics I would look at David Revoy
Alblune Studios and one of their devs Luca made and is updating a fun rat picross/house maker called Squeakross: Home Squeak Home
Georgina Bensly (I may have the spelling wrong sorry) if you want to hear about a steam curator trying to find yuri games.
Vintage Story is a fun game to look into that has a Mastodon account too.
@VANTABlack2000 @withinity welcome to Mastodon! It can take some time to find your feet here, but once you've found your "neighbors" there's nothing quite like it elsewhere on the social web. As another reply mentioned, tags are an essential method of finding topics you're interested in here. Definitely a good idea to find some you're interested in (though most game stuff I see doesn't really use them
)I can confirm that @Alblune and @LukaTheMouse are great follows!
Also think these folks are awesome:
@glassbottommeg
@eniko
@aeva
@lisyarus
@typeswitch
@unormal
@Gord
@Alrecenk
@silverspookgames
@zarfeblong
@djlink
@maddy
@zeux
@zep
@Doomed_Daniel
@icculus
@alienmelon
@rygorous
@cmddx
@demofox
@radiatoryang
@inform7tips(I'm sure I am leaving people out, though!)
-
@withinity post a funny cat pic and link in @catsalad to boost it and you'll be set. @VCP
@draNgNon Nice hahaha I love cats! Thanks for the tip

Came here to basically say the same thing. Follow for any reason, unfollow for same. You've already discovered following hash tags.
Just tend the garden. Read what you like. Follow folks who day interesting things. If you see an account sending stuff that doesn't spark joy, unfollow.
Your feed will grow over time to shape to your tastes, but without agenda.
Is very much unlike most of the socials out there.
Welcome!
@pseudonym Thanks for the advice. I like the "without agenda" part. Everyone has been so welcoming

Hi I am new to Mastodon, I don't really know what I am doing here yet. Does anyone know of any cool nonprofits or gamedev people to follow? Currently my feed is just the internet archive. I love that, but it might not lead to a very satisfying experience.
@withinity welcome! you've joined the right server for meeting game devs! i recommend you checking out the local timeline during peak hours to see what everyone's up to

@MCDuncanLab I know what you mean. That said, there was this italian place a little out of the way that was really good called Paesano's. It was a pricey but always high quality. Palm palace was good for cheapy bulk mediterranian.
The wood fired pizza place by the park was pretty good for pizza. I miss that park, good way to escape the barfy undergrads.
Now I'm over in Massachusetts. It's great, but really expensive to exist.
Yeah, Paesano's is what I consider Midwest good.
Living in LA as a postdoc with some spending money and occasional Dad or PI-funded dinners at *really* good restaurants will pretty much ruin a palate for Midwest good eats.
And I'm not sure that dining out is cheaper here. We plunked $75 for one cocktail, one beer, a small wood-fired pizza, and a side of asparagus, tip not included. Nice location though, near the botanical garden on a deck overlooking the creek.

@MCDuncanLab Yea I would say that's about par for the course here as well.
Detroit has some fancy dining on that island. I was invited to an event there for some science thing. It was more of a boys club than good food though :/.
I'll have to check out the west coast one day. Boston and the cape is great for seafood.
Also if you ever need someone whose good at chemical data analysis with stats/ML I can probably help :D.

@hardpenguin13 Hi!!!

[ US centric post ]
"cool nonprofit" is in the eye of the beholder, but in the US, most nonprofits are required to file a tax return called a form 990
eg, if you search for say the Southern Poverty Law center, you find
https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/630598743they have almost US $ one billion in the bank (!!!!) and the CEO is paid almost half a million dollars
so maybe not that cool
@failedLyndonLaRouchite Ewy. I am all for founders making some money to live and take care of themselves. But imagine what you could do to forward a cause by taking 1/4 of that salary

I didn't mention it, cause I was to lazy to find a source, but pretty sure SPLC has a long history of abusive treatment of employees

Now I'm imagining a feed of alerts when something is added to the Internet Archive.@FritzAdalis Thats kind of what my feed looked like when I first set it up and I was like "this can't be why people come here" so I asked for help.
A filtered feed based on topics of books going to the internet archive would be very nice though. Every few months I go on there and search for the same topics to try and hoard more ebooks I don't have time to read
