The way the image just perfectly captures the journalists doing luxury, disengaged hand-wringing about blackouts while the ACTUAL THREAT plays out in front of their eyes.
Put this one in the museums, the history books, the digital archives. It's perfection.
@ketan we are like rabbits eating as they are dying while we will party and watch northern lights aka fires!

@ketan it’s just unbelievable isn’t it? Europe is on fire and the risk is to do anything that might prevent a literal global meltdown. Maybe they figure we’re all doomed now anyhow so let’s keep making cash so they can die rich. Is it too much to hope that Andy Burnham might actually do something about this?

@ketan so even after zooming in, it is quite clearly that new system needs better measurement and detection. It is not net zero that risks blackouts, it is new energy sources replacing old fossil ones.
I guess considering financing source of media they know they don't need even try -

@ketan "Net Zero risks blackouts"
Ffs even if that WERE true it'd still be a meaningless point; how much power we can generate is irrelevant if we all die in a wildfire.

@Selvari21106 We need do net zero. And the firefighters and hospitals in these regions need electricity. Canadairs need electricity. The warning messages when and where you are evacuated, need smartphones = electricity.
Don't be an inhumane. These people would save even you. -

@jezbers @ketan This "we're doomed so let's make the money now" is absolutely what's going on. The fossil fuel companies know that one way or another their days are numbered. So they absolutely have to get as much oil and gas out of the ground and sold as they can in the next few years, and delay the energy transition for as long as possible.

@ketan the irony is that persistent drought is one of the main causes for most of these fires. Most traditional electricity generation needs water for cooling and will be switched off when river water levels get too low, because of the same persistent drought.
What do they think will happen when random coal, gas and nuclear power stations have to be switched off because the cooling systems are inoperable? Journalists
