    Positive News: France has announced its plan to ditch Windows & switch to Linux for government desktops. 🥳 🇫🇷

    Not only that, but they have also moved 80, 000 National Health Insurance Fund Employees to open source alternatives replacing U.S owned Big Tech platforms like Microsoft Teams & Zoom.

    It’s amazing to see the country take action, push for real digital sovereignty, & opt for open source solutions! 👏

    @Tutanota

    It is the only option for independence and safety and integrity of our data.

    The whole EU needs to follow.

        @Tutanota
        I agree with @elduvelle

        it's a very small part of what should be done.
        Far from that, I wait to see which budget will be given for those tasks (and It's quite difficult In France right now on this purpose)

        there is ONE important move that could be done to explain that France is wishing to leave GAFAM

        President Macron could stop communicating on X ( but he doesn't and will not)😡

        last things : should we talk about France dependencies when it comes to cloud ??

              Considering that Microsoft products are astonishingly bad, it is about time. Maybe a few decades too late, but this is the second best time.

                "France has announced its plan to ditch Windows & switch to Linux for government desktops."

                actually, no... they've announced that one of the government agencies / group will be moving to Linux.. not the entire government!

                Wizard's first rule: people will believe something because they want to believe it's true...

                the entire French government moving to Linux sounds very nice but that doesn't mean it's true! I'd recommend waiting until we have an accurate source that actually says this before getting all excited about it

                Few weeks ago I read in paper that some big cities as Toulouse had rejected windows in their administration. Little by little it’s on move but it requires a lot of change and it can’t be done very fast

                    @Tutanota we need to start doing the same here in the UK, specially for the NHS where a good amount of money is spent on software licensing.

                      @pr06lefs @Tutanota The fact you need an up-to-date, un-rooted, safetynet enabled Android or iPhone for most banking apps is one of my biggest gripes.
                      We can have administrative privileges everywhere, just not our phones?

                                    @Tutanota I wish the switch lasts, as I don't think it'd be the first time a move away from Windows happens in certain public administration, to later be reverted and Windows adopted again.

                                      @wyliecoyoteuk yes, of course, still - we should stop propagating information that might be wrong without a reliable source to go with it!

                                          @Tutanota
                                          Just to say it, I think we should be pushing to leave all big tech in general, not just U.S. big tech, as it's labeled all the time. The threat of greed and data is a global problem.
