@evacide I prefer the analogy of a hermit crab. As I grow in knowledge and awareness I need to seek a more spacious home with room to move.

@evacide this reply thread is one bucket of people being sad about our lost communities, and another bucket of people being righteous about lost audiences and capitalism, and i don't think the people in the buckets realize they're talking about different things

@evacide There was a shooting more or less in my vicinity today. My first reaction was to long for the days when a simple text search on Twitter would have been enough to figure what was going on.

@marielgm @evacide I think it would be nifty if we could geotag our Fediverse posts and thus be able to find recent posts near me (chronological posts within a fixed distance). Would bring back that concept, albeit not as widespread as Twitter was.

@evacide I miss the days when it was a bit more niche, and nerds had a sort of power over non-nerds.

I miss being able to outrank huge companies just because I was running shit on a private VPS and had SSL before everyone else.

I miss the internet that was a source of obscure facts, rather than non-facts sold as facts.

@evacide is that old enough to have had a geocities page? 😊
I still kind of feel like the idea that we would all have "homepages" linked together by common interests and spontaneous social networking was one of our better ones. Fediverse is pretty cool too though...
