    Wednesday was a sad day, not only for #privacy, but also for the #EU. Brussels may already be used to being despised by the far right, but that did not seem to be enough. They are working hard to earn the contempt of as many potential supporters as possible.

    »On Wednesday, #EU Member States approved a change to the #GDPR that would put the profit-making interests of #OpenAI, #Anthropic, #Google, #Meta and #SpaceX over European's fundamental right to data protection.

    According to the approved text, processing personal data “in the context of AI” should automatically be lawful. In particular, Big Tech would be able to use all personal data collected over the past decades with virtually no restrictions, as long as this happens “in the context” of AI.« (emphasis added)

        @Herman

        Probably time to donate to @noybeu – obviously, strategic litigation must compensate for a lack of judgment, and a severe betrayal of the citizens.

          @penguinrebellion To be clear, this is a continuation of a proud tradition of letting specific business interests cast themselves as too important for humans to get in the way of - the most important & overlooked of these is probably the car, which human society has been built around for so long nobody can imagine any other way.

          We simply forgot that they're only a product & now we struggle to even begin undoing the damage this has caused, to people & the planet.

          When will we learn?
