@hpod16 A belated welcome, Hannah!

@clickhere Thank you, thank you.
I can't believe what a welcome it's been!
I wonder what my boss will say on Monday morning when I explain how I suddenly became Mastodon-famous over the weekend... -

How can we make more Europeans come to the Fediverse?@hpod16 I wish you all the best. I'm Owner of the first and only (I think) Italian Catholic instance. Namasté

@amministratore
Thanks for the warm welcome!
What made you want to set up an Italian Catholic instance? And what kind of people does the instance host? Priests? Theologians?
Peace be with you

@hpod16 the instance was born in October 2025. I wanted to create an "ethical" digital platform for Catholic Communities, priests and Catholic educators. We are small at the moment, but with God's help, we will grow.

Thanks for the comment, @der_schrank!
I can tell you there are people working on this.
Mastodon was recently included under the "share more" option, but I'll admit it could be even more prominent. It's a first step, more steps to come.digg still exists in 2026? i thought that one shut down more than ten years ago.

@alex_p_roe @hpod16 We realised that our instance urgently needed icons for ketchup
and mayonnaise
– an artist in the moderator team made this possible.@Trojaner Haha, this is amazing. (I was going to jump in with some info about emojis, etc., but I think it's mostly been covered.)
Yes, having custom emojis for your server/community is very important. The admins of @mastodonie - an Irish instance - added icons for a pint of stout, Tayto crisps (the national potato chip), Brennan's bread (an indispensable loaf), and (most important of all) a mug of tea.

Ok but let me understand this:
I can only really see those icons, if I'm on that Irish instance? Or if my instance supports those? Wondering if it's worth going down the rabbit hole of figuring out how to make these / use these for our official EU Commission instance... -

I wonder what my boss will say on Monday morning when I explain how I suddenly became Mastodon-famous over the weekend...@hpod16 Haha! I promise to stop spamming you, but that's so great that you got such a good welcome.
You'll just have to tell them that Mastodon/Fediverse is the future.

You should be able to access two sets of emojis - the Mastodon Emojos and the usual system specifics (Apple in my case) emojis. Apple emoji:

@hpod16 @HennaVirkkunen Yes, a very good start, even though the instance name is a bit clunky and bureaucratic.

@kallekn @hpod16 @HennaVirkkunen This is exactly why I have been pushing the #LoseTheXLink hashtag. I see a lot of nobodies like myself leaving Twitter ... sorry ... X ... and that is great, but many people stay on that platform because they are following "big" accounts that stay there. Getting "big" accounts with lots of followers to quit is the way to make this snowball into a REAL #Xodus . How to get them to do so? Bombard them with questions asking them how they can justify staying there.

Good luck with that

PS Great to hear the EU is looking into this! -

If they are not installed on the local server, you can only see the code.

How can we make more Europeans come to the Fediverse?@hpod16 welcome to Mastodon!
I hope you'll enjoy being here.
As for your mission, It's my belief that explaining exactly what ActivityPub (and not just Mastodon) actually would be a great first step. ActivityPub is the protocol that every Fediverse service uses to dialogue with other services.
I also believe that @_elena and her (I hope this is the right pronoun Elena, if not just make me know and I'll edit) videos explaining the Fediverse would help a lot
-
@hpod16 The Fediverse is global, but Europe has a lot of instances and users.
The EU institutions should have own instances
and „all“ of the Parliament an account. -
