My 7-year old, cleaning the playroom with me: Do we have a hot glue gun
-
@caroline Please tell me you responded by pointing out that the total volume of things would be the same.
-
@caroline technically if you glue every object to another object that's only one object at the end. Though it may be a bit difficult to put away

-
@pthariensflame @caroline especially if you consider "shelf" or "box", and even more so "room" as "object"

Me: Yes… why?
Him: if we glue every object to another object then it’s half as many things to clean up@caroline

@viq @pthariensflame I think the direction I’m getting here is that I need to introduce him to Katamari Damacy

@caroline @pthariensflame "hey, remember this thing you asked about the glue gun? Some strangers on the internet think you didn't yet take it to its logical conclusion. Here, let me show you"

As would their surface area.
But! Even if the objects are larger and have more complex surfaces, there are still fewer of them. This makes it easier to move them aside when cleaning the surface they're on (floor, countertop, etc) or collect them into a storage container.
The little one's logic is sound.

If you glue each object to another object, then you end up with *at most* half as many objects.
Each object could be glued to exactly one other object, in which case you get n÷2 objects. Gluing each object to two other objects results in n÷3 objects. Gluing all objects together results in n÷n objects, i.e. one object.
