Everybody has to coordinate with Starlink because SPACEX CONTROLS ORBIT. That's against the Outer Space Treaty.
Your engineering challenge, SpaceX, is to provide your services with fewer satellites. Not yell at everyone else for having satellites too.
@sundogplanets We should rebrand SpaceX

@sundogplanets what a bunch of bastards
All I wish for starlink is a fucking kessler syndrome that takes down every dollar they spent in the constellation.

@sundogplanets the words “pot”, “kettle“ and “black” come to mind. Oh, and a monumental lack of self awareness. But then it’s the people at the top who dictate behaviours. So no, I’m not surprised.

@sundogplanets Time to develop a "snowplow" vehicle that can clear the ascent path if necessary.

It’ll get interesting if they start getting aggressive clearing space for themselves

@f4grx @sundogplanets sorry but we need satellite communications, kessler syndrome would mean we go into WW3 with a much larger handicap than already now (which in turn increases the likelihood of WW3)

@sundogplanets what bollocks is this ? they both prize the lawless nature of space above everything.

@f4grx @sundogplanets also its not like these people _really_ care about money, in the way a rational economic agent would...

@sundogplanets yea but we could start putting lasers on launch vehicles to deflect starlink garbage. That would be cool

@sundogplanets Waa! The other kids are playing with their toys so I can't play with mine as much any more.
Is how I read this article.

@sundogplanets faster than light. i would never use a satteliite network. i go straight to the internet back-bone and i like copper.

@sundogplanets so thats how they'll justify their valuation.

@sundogplanets I honestly wonder when we’ll cross the tipping point and see the Kessler syndrome in action…
To save the curios a search: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kessler_syndrome

@BurritoSommelier We're already in Kessler syndrome at many altitudes. It's just the timescale between collisions is slow (for now)

Copper is great except when it gets stolen.
We can't have nice things any more : -(

@bjb @sundogplanets i am not a scrapper but i know what you are talking about. that copper line kept a constant signal with the phone copany during power outages. using voice over ip is slow. a cell phone can not always connect to a tower.

@sundogplanets but how else can one satellite talk to another that's much closer to reduce latency?

@sundogplanets And as a complete aside, I see from the comments and distribution of votes that Ars article comments are to continue to be avoided. I mistakenly assumed there would be a promoted or well regarded comment against this situation.

@sundogplanets This is the space equivalent of telco companies hanging extremely large/heavy bundles of wire along power utility pole infrastructure... and then the poles break under pressure... and the telco blames the power company.

@sundogplanets According to Wikipedia: "Starlink Services, LLC is a telecommunications subsidiary of the American spaceflight company SpaceX..."
SOMEBODY needs to coordinate all of the satellites that we exclusively control.
