@CakesOfPan Absolutely.
Library near me is a community hub with activities also. The singing for babies toddlers and mums is awesome to hear. Amazingly beautiful and relaxing.
The rich and powerful who endlessly squeeze out such quality of life matters should never be let near such levels of control.
How to do that is another matter.

A while back I used the library *all the time* to get sheet music for piano, and they increased my limit to like 20 books or something because of it. Then because I'm a disorganised nightmare I let loads of books go over and got a big fine on my account. When I gave the books back, the librarian looked at the fine, said "oooh, we can't charge you *that*!" and just deleted the fine entirely
"We'll say no more about it" 🤫
Libraries honestly. They're a gift.

@krnlg @CakesOfPan My library system quit assessing fines for overdue materials several years ago, and library usage went way up. If you keep a book long enough though, they will charge you the full price to replace it, as my forgetful son recently learned. But that's several months, and the charge was erased when he returned it.

@mlanger It was an image when I copy/pasted it here. That's all I know about it.

@mlanger I'm equally perplexed. The total amount of work, both human and computer, it must have taken to publish this image with the alt-text being exactly what the image reads is mind-bogglingly greater than just posting the alt-text as is in a post.

@hypolite @CakesOfPan I see this all the time. I don't boost it because I think it's stupid. No matter how much I agree with the sentiment, it is somehow lowered in its value by being rendered as an image instead of screen readable text.
Does everything we say have to be turned into a fucking meme? I say no.

@mlanger Now that I'm reading the alt-text more closely, it looks like it was created by an Optical Character Recognition system that confused a lowercase L with a vertical bar|so maybe automatically created? Like you, I still disagree with the method. -

It has a total disregard for people with visual impairments. It takes up more bandwidth than the actual text. It's juvenile like something your grandmother might share on Facebook.
