@sebwilken @jon and arrival in Copenhagen around 8:00 would be tough because of the amount of trains during rush hour I suppose.

@grlodi @sebwilken Loads of SJ's night train carriages lack approval for anywhere other than Sweden. And there might be loading gauge issues too.

@jon "The last train between France's 8th and 2nd cities goes at... 16:15"

No train at 19:00? Ah, a Teddy Bears' Picnic train service:

"At six o'clock their Mommies and Daddies
Will take them home to bed
Because they're tired little Teddy Bears"

@TimWardCam @jon I'm adding that to my summary phrases for pathetic transport, alongside "lethally pantomime junction layout" and "Cycleway Resembling A Pavement"

          @mjr @jon I should have credited:

The late Colin Rosenstiel regularly used it about bus services - I don't know whether he invented it.

@jon @grlodi @sebwilken AFAIK, the only still-running Swedish night train rolling stock that has ever had approvals outside of Sweden are the BC2K and BC2DE couchettes. Only a few of them exist and I’m sure they don’t have DK approval anymore.

Meanwhile Malmö - Stockholm is mostly a business traveler product often running with more WL4 (first class sleeper) than any other type of carriage.

@Jonas_Bostrom please correct me where I’m wrong 🙂

@stefanlindbohm Outside Sweden and Norway, but apart from that correct AFAIK. As long as we don't count the ones that have been bought/leased recently by SJ and Snälltåget. @jon @grlodi @sebwilken

@jon Yes, the 1980s generation of carriages (BC4, WL4, WL6 and more) were built to take advantage of the larger Swedish loading gauge. While the Öresund bridge and tunnel has a large loading gauge, it would probably require a bit of work to be able to run them all the way to Hovedbanegården.

The carriages also lack emergency brake override required across Öresund and are only built for 1,000 V 16 2⁄3 Hz power. @grlodi @sebwilken

So I wondered... as #LongestTrainEU is now amazingly ahead of schedule, could I get *further* than Genève tonight

How about a, say, 19:00 TGV Strasbourg - Lyon

                          Ah no

The last train between France's 8th and 2nd cities goes at... 16:15 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Going to Genève makes pretty much no sense, geographically, but the Swiss do actually like running trains. The French, not so much!

@jon @Pepijn I'm curious to know if this adds any planning and logistical challenges to have someone following you, since in all your previous cross-border adventures you only had to book seats, couchettes and hotels for yourself. Is he allowed to cheat and use alternative forms of transportation?

Cool - you already have plenty of drama for a little short doc series it seems. And you haven't even reached France yet!

Maybe you can convince Rick to join the Fediverse - it would be nice to find more film people here!

@jon I bet they'll say putting more trains isn't worth it until the LGV Rhin-Rhône is completed, and completing the LGV isn't worth it until there are enough passengers on the line. 🔄

Why start somewhere and choose the virtuous circle when you can just glide into the vicious circle instead? 🤡
