Like in a lab context, "what this specific thing is made out of" actually matters because it determines what it's compatible with and whether it's going to contaminate anything, it's not enough to just jam a sentence together based on what things like that are typically made of.

@afewbugs I'm surprised its made that difficult especially from a specialist lab supplies company, I can get MSDS and tech data sheets for motor oil, coolant, screenwash and cleaning solvents (and look at all these quite often for the same reasons you would need to in the lab)

@afewbugs Bring it to their attention, naturally, also pointing out they’ll be on your supplier blocklist if it’s not fixed now. There is no good reason to obfuscate MSDS.

I can feel your pain. In one of the areas I work in (space engineering) it wasn't at all enough that a thing worked and didn't die under freezing cold or radiation or whatever. It was the certified description of processes and materials for a thing that was essential to be able to use it. It also pushed the price by x10 or much more. No certificate, no use.

Yes, but wouldn't your evil superlab still be supplied by these calamities? Or are there specialist supervillain suppliers who understand just how important are super laser components?

And they understand the consequences of providing a substandard service.

When you really look at it, the only way to properly do sciencing is to go evil. And like with the space programme, there'll probably be all kinds of incidental breakthroughs to benefit humanity.

                          Win-win if you ask me.

@afewbugs I'm reminded of the observation I saw one day ... here paraphrased ...

The general public see that a supervillian is "Dr Something" ... they nod along sagely and say: Yes, they must be clever.

Those from academia nod along sagely and say: Clearly it drove them insane.

@vfrmedia My guess is that this is in part as REACH (the original, and I assume the Brexiteered island derivative as well) requires SDS to be made available for professional use unsolicited and free of charge at the moment of sale. As a lot of manufacturers struggle to comply with this they supply them on the websites.

The whole "AI-assisted" nonsense in scientific journals speaks to the divide between scientists and the corporate interests in for-profit journals that have their own incentives.
