PM Carney seems ready to suspend environmental regulation in Canada under the illusion that he can buy political peace with Danielle Smith (ie the oil industry).

The benefits will be real: for a handful of companies with already-bloated profits.

The costs will be real too: a rising tide of economic and ecological disaster that sinks all boats.
