The inspiring thing with Thunberg is actually her use of anger. She doesn't "act it out" in sudden outburst of aggression without thinking her actions through. She remains cool, calm and collected, but it doesn't take away the focus and intensity of her righteous anger. Quite the opposite. If anything, she's a woman on a mission. And she's using her anger psychologically in the most appropriate way possible.

I say this because most adults can learn a thing or two about the way she uses anger to shove away the bullshit and see reality more clearly. There's so much noise interfering with the simple fact that Israel is committing a genocide, that European states are supporting Israel to do it and that our media continue to make that possible by parroting Israeli press releases https://theintercept.com/2025/05/25/how-to-write-about-palestine

Another simple answer that often doesn't get aired: "Why are so many countries around the world just ignoring what is happening in Gaza?" - "Because of racism. That's the simple answer, I would say."

@malte That's certainly part of it. Another is that the US (and therefore its puppets) see Israel as a foothold in the middle east, from which they can control other ME countries.

@malte I agree. It's because the West currently hates Muslims/Arabs more than it hates Jews. (Which does NOT mean that antisemitism is resolved or gone - it's definitely still here.)

Greta Thunberg continues to be one of the most mature voices in mainstream media. After having arrived in Paris, a journalist asks her what she has to say about the American tyrant's comment that "She's an angry woman that needs anger management". Thunberg's answer is short and sweet: "Well, I think the world needs a lot more angry women, especially with everything going on right now."

@malte it has been amazing to watch her grow up from afar. So many young voices get co-opted or lose steam and disappear, but she has kept going and has genuinely inspired me with how much more authentically radical she’s been in her actions than I’ve often had the guts to do. And even lifted up the voices of those often ignored when she realized how hers was being misused

@pwassonchat @malte I abhor Zionism but I do not hate Jews. I grew up in a family where there was no prejudice. My granny worked for a Jewish family as a live in Housekeeper when she first came to New Zealand. She was married from their home. The Granny paid for her wedding gown. My mums first serious boyfriend was Jewish. There was still photos of him in family albums. However I will never understand the effect of Zionism in Israel and the genocide in Gaza.

@hyenachow As I say, the way she uses her anger is actually at a much more intense level than someone who would prematurely release the aggressive energy in a short burst of outrage like throwing things at the wall. Her anger is focused and sustained. And continually put to use. The most intense anger is calm, not loud. https://radikal.social/@malte/114660261178848339

@CarolynStirling I join you in abhoring zionism. At least the colonial version (one can argue that there could be versions of zionism that are not built on exclusion, but co-existence). I think it is upon us all to in fact understand as best as we can the effect of Israeli zionism and the genocide. To stop it, we need to also see the genocidal logic in our own ways. As difficult it is to accept, the perpetrators work in all too human ways as well. Nothing inevitable about it! @pwassonchat

@JoscelynTransient Well put. Perhaps that's the most inspiring part. Thunberg has managed to not get domesticated or destroyed by the media machine after having been put on a pedestal by them.

@malte Gaza is moreover seen as economically irrelevant, a population outside global supply chains. There are no consumers of interest, and no iPhones, T-shirts, or semiconductors whose production depends on Gaza.

This allows the actors of the global economy to comfortably ignore its destruction.

@malte Completely agree. She manifests 'constructive anger' and it is even a thing! https://mindworkslab.org/angermonitor/ https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11089-024-01196-x
