My friends, I need your advice. I'm in my second year of university majoring in translation. Which is better, medical translation or media translation? I'm confused.

@rania40 As a retired Financial Editor, I definitely suggest Medical Translation. Being able to translate medical terminology, accurately and clearly, puts you in a position to help spread vital information amongst Scientists and Doctors. It will also place you in good stead should you choose to work in Media Translation. It is much easier to shift from technical modes of writing/translation to non-technical modes than Vice Versa.

@rania40 @aral@ar.al i'm by no means an expert, but it would seem to me that medical translation would be more sustainable/future-proof. if, however, you're excited by media translation, you'd probably be happier going with that.

@rania40 @aral my vote is on medical translation. that will still require human input, peer review, etc. for a couple of years (if properly done.) media - noone gives a shit, ai will take that over (and ruin) completely.

@rania40 @aral FWIW I think the main difference is media = quantity & medical = quality. So, the question is, what kind of work interests you - high speed or high stakes?

In terms of future jobs I think there will be work for both if you have good skills, so think more about the kind of work life you want than the threat of AI or whatever.
