Merinospinneriet, established in 1949 in Ytre Sandviken, #Bergen, was a major hub for Norway's #textile #industry. Here seen just after its opening, the factory was built to produce locally-made worsted merino wool yarn for Norwegian textile businesses. By the early 1950s, it had a production capacity of 750,000 kg, and became a vital part of the local community, offering housing, healthcare, and recreation for its employees.
However, by the 1960s, technological changes and global competition led to its decline. The factory shifted to producing synthetic yarn but struggled to compete. After closing in 1975, the building served various businesses until it was demolished in 2022.
