@vcallinan Filters are virtually essential to avoid hearing about Trump as they will remove a lot of the dross. Bits will filter through, unfortunately, as people use a whole range of epithets to talk about him and his cabal, but it will be kept to a minimum.
You can also filter individual posts, which helps if you don't want to see them a second time.
Muting and blocking are also very useful, and you can mute for different time periods.

Americans, yes (including myself). But American-centric? Not that I've seen. Many of my favorite follows are N-A (Non-American). There are lots of gardeners of various sorts who are very active on here. Also, if you like such things, this Saturday check out #caturday

Can't avoid the US aspect, but there are significant numbers of people from around the globe (including the US) who just want to socialise.
A bonus? The use of hashtags can be used to filter any unwanted interaction away from your timeline.
A nation is not its populace.
Nor is the populace a nation.
Too many politicians WANT division between peers as together we CAN tell them they are neither needed, nor (in some cases) wanted.

@vcallinan somehow a lot of the content I see is in German. So I think it's just about how you tailor your feed if it's going to be an american-centric or not.

@ottomate FB wouldn't cancel my account , despite following the process several times. Took about a year. I do miss some of the FB offerings like Marketplace, but not enough to go back. Most of my FB followers were people I knew, so I see them at meetings. Was freeing making the break.
@vcallinan Marketplace is very useful...so I created an account from which I do not post, follow or add "friends". Just sell stuff. It was tricky to open the account without providing an email.
