In September, I put in a purchase request for Enshittification at the library. In October, I was notified that Aarhus library now has it in stock. I reserved the audiobook. I just got a notification that it's ready for me to borrow. In one click, I have borrowed it. The library's simple, free, reader-oriented process is like the opposite of enshittification.

When I reserved it, I was no. 3 in the queue. Lucky there, I assume, because I got an immediate notification when it was made available as I had put in a purchase request. I need to read it quickly now because the library app shows that there are 32 people in the queue and I don't want to keep my fellow readers waiting.

32 people in the queue at a Danish library for an English-language non-fiction book about why everything about online technology has got worse and what we can do about it.
Anecdotally, this feels like a sign that our consciousnesses (can that word be a plural?) have been raised. Kudos to Cory Doctorow and to everyone who is trying to do something about it while making ordinary non-tech end-users like me aware of the problem in the first place.

@CiaraNi Oh great, I was hoping this was possible. How do I put in a request for the library to purchase Enshittification as e-book, for example?

@malte We can request a title through the library's local website or (if an eReolen non-Danish-language title) by tagging it in Libby. I've also suggested titles by mail and, still my favourite method, just asking the nearest librarian in person when I'm in the library. Like Santy, they register wishes while you wait.
Specifically Enshittification: I requested both the ebook & audiobook in case only one would be chosen. Both editions are now in stock. (Aarhus bibloteks side vist her.)

@CiaraNi I think @pluralistic will appreciate this, on more than one level...
