I feel like this highlights the problem with defederation once again, when it comes to blocking very large instances: defederation can harm your own users more than it prevents harm.

I feel like this highlights the problem with defederation once again, when it comes to blocking very large instances: defederation can harm your own users more than it prevents harm.
#Bluesky is a *gigantic* instance (40M users, 1.5M DAU) that dwarfs the entire Mastodon ecosystem, and it contains a plurality of voices. Defederating from them will deny your Mastodon users access to many important voices, including trans support groups and activists, yet will likely do nothing to convince Bluesky to change their behavior.
