@randomgeek @aud @danirabbit @griotspeak original sin is one of those things that once we started looking for it in conservative rhetoric, it is fucking everywhere.
@ireneista @aud @danirabbit @griotspeak of all places, my satori occurred reading the "Fantasy Hero" resource book for Fifth Edition Hero System RPG. There's a section pointing out how conservative the major fantasy tropes are, and basically "play into it, play against it, or play with it, but be informed about the idioms of the form."

@alatiera @zbrown @danirabbit My favorite part of the Lord of the Rings, which I am sure you remember as well, was when Ace Ventura defeated Saruman with a tiny blowpipe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieLPn0gdpEU
@nekohayo @alatiera @danirabbit does he assault any women in suuuuuper hilarious ways thus popularising a series of tropes around a minority that's now actively hunted by several governments?
Jim Carrey is a funny guy and he's amazingly expressive. Ace Ventura should be erased from the timeline.

@danirabbit Remember, they’re the same guys who argue we don’t need English/literature/communication classes because STEM subjects are more important.

@danirabbit At long last, we have created One Ring to Rule Them All from the classic fantasy novel Don't Create One Ring to Rule Them All
-
@danirabbit wait, is there anyone in the tech industry who *did* get The Lord of The Rings?
@datarama @danirabbit You're in Rivendell, buddy.
-
@danirabbit @Ashedryden (exasperated) no, morgoth was different. you don’t get it. morgoth didn’t have the rings. are you saying the one ring doesn’t have any utility? frodo put it on, bam. invisible. can’t believe you will just go on pretending like the rings “don’t work”
@glyph @danirabbit @Ashedryden Oh you tried the palantir in the third age? Bro, you have to try the latest model, the palantir he sent out last month is a total game-changer. I've got all these crebain agents running in the background now keeping an eye out and stuff, it's great. I don't even wander the woods anymore

I learned of this only a couple of days ago, haven't read it yet but there's apparently an English translation out there
-
@aburka @danirabbit You're absolutely correct!

Kind wild how the whole tech industry is just people who did and didn’t get The Lord of The Rings
@danirabbit There were those of us who thought Palantir was a horrific idea from the start.

@danirabbit if the nerds didn't get Lord Of The Rings we're all doomed
