What happens if a badly-run server allows bullying, spam or other nastiness? What if it refuses to respond to abuse reports?

In such cases, other servers' admins can use their ultimate weapon: defederation. Defederation cuts off all communication between the admin's server and the abusive server, and the worst-run servers end up extremely isolated because so many servers have defederated them.

This is why it's always worth telling your server admin if there is bad stuff going on.

@ramu depends on your server. Also, if it's your own server and there's no one else there it is as democratically as it can be.

@ramu @FediTips If an admin is seeing a lot of complaints because another server seems to be a haven for bad actors, they might decide to block the whole instance. Each admin is probably going to have to make their own judgement call about that.

Each server on the Fediverse is totally independent, so each server decides and implements its own defederation policy.
