Hi!

They don't last. We make sure of it.
@TeflonTrout @imaginaryuncle Bless

@imaginaryuncle omg I wish!
@sans_serif_girl I literally just wrote in my journal last week that I want to learn tarot! And I also just picked up Rebecca by du Maurier to read! What are the odds!

Hi! I’m new here. I’ve tried Mastodon a couple times but maybe third time’s the charm! I have become increasingly disillusioned by mainstream social media and I’m searching for ways to connect with other people outside of an algorithm.
I teach high school English and I read a lot. Currently at book 92 of a read around the world project. I was a teen in the 90s and still trying to keep my grunge phase alive. I love art and film too.
Hope to meet some likeminded people!
@imaginaryuncle welcome back! Out of curiosity, why didn't it stick the last few times?
-
@imaginaryuncle Ah ok. I’m sorry from my misunderstanding.
So far, what country(ies) have you enjoyed the most?@ericmpaq too many to list! I’ve read some not so great books though. Luckily not too many or I would lose steam with this challenge.
-
@imaginaryuncle CamelCase is when you capitalise the first letter of every word, LikeThis. So instead of having a #hashtag, you would have: #HashTag.
@bemmesr I see! Thank you. I’ll make sure to do that.
-
Beige bless you right back

-
@cmyrland that’s brave. I’m still finding it hard to delete FB and IG. Everyone I know is on there so I’ll just lose touch with everyone if I delete them. So annoying. I also tried Bluesky and it did not click for me either. So far I’m having an amazing start here! Just hope it lasts.
@imaginaryuncle yeah, that lock-in is hard to break out of. I have over time succeded in moving family over to Telegram (years ago.. I would much rather move them to Signal or Matrix/Deltachat now, but you know how it is..), and friends are on either Signal or Snapchat (the one bad SoMe I'm still using).. But for me just being me and posting about whatever I happen to think about at any given time, the Fediverse is perfect!

I assume a read-around-the-world project entails reading a book published in each country respectively? What are you missing? Perhaps someone can help

Beige bless you right back

@TeflonTrout @imaginaryuncle hah~! beigh bless, I like that, can I steal it?
-
@KnaveMurdok ugh Trump. I hope those people don’t follow us here.
They're sometimes around but the nature of the fediverse makes a lot of the usual toxins hard to spread since everyone can just kind of snip the wires and defederate.
this is it. this is our bastion where we can post. pure and free and beautiful.

@imaginaryuncle@mastonu
Moin.
I'm quite sure that you'll find like minded folk.
Have fun! -
@imaginaryuncle I don’t think they would know what to do if they did.
@KnaveMurdok run away screaming?
-
@TeflonTrout @imaginaryuncle hah~! beigh bless, I like that, can I steal it?
It's not mine to offer, but I'd be honored. It's a Beige.Party thing- It's ok though because we aren't a cult

@fullywoolly hi! It seemed kinda dead before. Maybe I joined the wrong server? It’s so much better this time.
-
@Jazone so I must be the book LIZard. Get it?

@cmyrland your determination is commendable! Maybe I’ll be able to break free one day too.

@lianna yep that’s right! I’m going with authors born in each country. I’m doing ok for now but soon I’ll hit the really small countries that don’t have a lot of literature or none translated into English. That’s when I’ll be struggling.

@TeflonTrout @imaginaryuncle I'm learnin' today. I dunno what beige party even is
I been on this platform for like, a couple'a days so far. -

@imaginaryuncle omg 🤯 let me know your thoughts on Du Maurier’s writing – I’m a bit partial 'cause she’s my favourite author, but I absolutely love her; imo she was a true master! and I read it translated, in english it must be even more evocative!
