    Nerd wanted!

My hosting solution just sent me the "updated" invoice for next year and they are out of their fucking corporate minds. So rather than giving them more money, I was thinking it would be nice to pay some self-hosting hacker type (furry or not) and support weird and small rather than large and capitalist.

    I would need the following:
    - the fairly lightweight website orsom.eu reliably online (all html/CSS with a tiny bit of JavaScript, quite low traffic, okay just using FileZilla for access)
    - a couple of email addresses with 5-10 GB of storage (a webmail client would be a plus for emergencies, but just using Thunderbird and K9 is fine)
    - EU based (preferably) and better if you can send me an invoice

Do you already have something similar for yourself and don't mind me tagging along for a few years until I have the time to set up self-hosting on my own? Let me know!

    Boosts appreciated ❤️

@tino Here in France we have a growing network of small companies or not for profit groups providing that kind of services with a focus on affordability and privacy (your data is not for sale). The network itself is called CHATONS (an acronym that translates as "kittens"). You can look them up at www.chatons.org and find the ones providing the services you need.

It's an offshoot of a larger free software advocacy group called Framasoft.

@tino I don't know about their furryness 🙂 and they are UK based rather than EU, but @beasts might fit the bill. They have web and email hosting accounts that fit your storage requirements for not a lot of cash. Around £5.00 a month for 15GB storage and 250GB bandwidth. Plus they have a responsive presence right here on the Fediverse.

I'm not affiliated with them other than the fact that I use their services and have been very happy with them.

FYI homelab is a weird group that requires people to follow them for interaction. Please stop putting them into public conversations where they auto spam people that are replying with their demands.

PS: I did the easier for me thing and blocked them.

                                      Nerd wanted!

My hosting solution just sent me the "updated" invoice for next year and they are out of their fucking corporate minds. @tino If you don't need mail tied to your host, purelymail.com has great pricing.

@too_little_caffeine Not necessarily. Might be easier to have a single solution, and often package deals save money, but keeping things separate does have its advantages as well. Thanks for the tip!

Also, I lived in Cork for five years, if you have the chance I'd highly recommend living your expat dreams 🙂
