Elon Musk now claims it is Trump who has restricted Ukraine's use of Musk's satellite internet.

@randahl
You want the truth?!A European federation would instantly be a global superplayer on absolute eye level with the US, China & Russia.
Right now, Europe is an economic giant, but militarily and geopolitically a fragmented dwarf hanging on US security guarantees.
That's exactly what Elon Musk's Starlink throttling in Ukraine exposed: Europe watches helplessly as a single American tech billionaire and the US government single-handedly decide on the continent's defense.
@Samson - tief In BerlinA European federation would instantly be a global superplayer
but that would mean you would give up your national affiliation and e.g. be governed by a bulgarian president, with a maltese minister of the interior and a french minister of finances. defence would be organized by an irish politician. are you willing to accept this? -

This assumption is not necessarily correct. Instead, it reflects a highly simplified and partly misguided conception of a European federation.In a federal system, you are not subject to the jurisdiction of individual member states. You answer to a common, democratically legitimized federal executive.
A European federation will have a supranational government. Therefore, the claim that you would be governed by other nation-states is politically and legally flawed.

these executives might be:bulgarian president, with a maltese minister of the interior and a french minister of finances. defence would be organized by an irish politician.

You don't understand that the whole thing is a process. Under this premise, conditionally in advance first of all yes. -
Elon Musk now claims it is Trump who has restricted Ukraine's use of Musk's satellite internet.
If that is true, a NATO partner is now preventing Ukraine from leveraging a key technology against the Russian invasion.
Please ask Secretary General Mark Rutte, if a NATO partner can side with the enemy and still remain a NATO partner.
@randahl not to mention there is a US president's signature on a little paper titled Budapest Memorandum

@SamsenBdRi @randahl Well....together with Ukraine, Europe has twice the military power of Russia, so - maybe not that simple

are you willing to accept these?Having executives from a lot of different EU countries is not that different from what we have today, is it? Yes, we have our own government in each country, but a huge amount of the laws decided by them are basically EU law being accepted as our own.
I get that things get different when we are talking things like defence and military, but again - that has been largely decided by NATO for many years. At least the people calling the shots (pun intended) would live in Europe and have their own ass on the line, rather than sitting in Washington and telling people halfway around the world what to do (and especially not to do).
And no - it's not simple, I know. However, we need to find an alternative to being run by other nations with no skin in the game. If that means that we need to work together and accept that our neighbours have a final say in some cases, I can live with that - as long as said neighbour has been democratically elected and I had a vote to cast.
