@jon A replacement bus is scheduled at 0741, it even shows the registration number. If you change your rules. https://www.trafikverket.se/trafikinformation/tag/?Train=7183-TR-5068-7181-20260908

Most important: can any people even better versed in the mess of Swedish rail that me tell me what the chances are that Norrtåg 7185 Haparanda - Boden - Luleå is going to ALSO be replaced by a bus?

It currently looks like it will be a train...

      @sebwilken @tml @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm wdyt?

@jon @sebwilken @tml @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm The inbound trip is listed as "await time", so the chances of it arriving Haparanda in time to turn around seem slim.

@jon There’s a SJ train schedules to leave just about now. But it arrived and departs from/to the south. So might not be affected depending on how the power sections are arranged.

@jon @sebwilken @tml @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm Those things take everything from a few hours to half a day to fix, down south where there are a lot of trains.

Up north off the main lines, who knows. Depends how long they have to travel to get to the troubled spot.

The rail replacement taxi will be in the Interrail system, so should be fine for the record attempt?

          Anyway, the worst timing possible...

@nafmo @sebwilken @tml @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm but the problem is between Boden and Murjek: https://www.trafikverket.se/trafikinformation/meddelanden/?Counties=25&Filtertype=trainMessage The question then is WHERE, and if this impacts the small part of the track exiting Boden that the line to Haparanda takes?

@jon Either way, it's the only power failure I can find documented, so it's likely this one — and with a long time to recovery. You may need to consider changing your rules, which opens the door for someone else to make a "clean" run (without emergency replacement traffic).

@jon @nafmo @sebwilken @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm Well, I guess if Trafikverket says they need the whole line Boden–Murjek for urgent maintenance, Norrtåg can not say "but we only need to use it for a couple of kilometres a couple of times per day pretty please!?" So I just called Norrtåg

There is a power line down somewhere. If it is fixed in time, 7185 will be a train. If it is NOT fixed in time it will be a bus... 🤔

So how bad is this power line failure?

@tml @jon @sebwilken @Jonas_Bostrom @stefanlindbohm Maybe the trains they need to run there are stuck on the wrong branch line?

Interestingly, Haparanda is not listed as an impacted station on Trafikverket's page, so it didn't really make sense

                        @jon

I did do Oulu (finland) to Calpe (spain) this summer with bus, train and ship in a three days journey. Bus mostly so I could create a tighter schedule and avoid busy Barcelona.

I see you ran already into some problems. 😞 I hope they resolve fast! Good luck!

Can some Finn please explain this road sign seen in Kemijärvi earlier?

Is it "you will only hit elk on the roads in half of Finland"? Is there some elk wall across the middle of the country?

EDIT: OK, it's a reindeer herding area

                          But I have questions!

The antlers on that sign are wrong.

And given I was a LONG way into the area, why do I need the map?

@jon About the reindeer herding area: they are semi-domesticated. Meaning they have a owner but roam freely. They aren't afraid of humans like wild animals and sometimes they hang around on roads. This is a risk because they won't flee when disturbed so if you go by car you have to stop and wait for them to move out of your way and you're not allowed to scare them off the road.

@jon At least the southbound part of Boden C seems operational, yes.

                              94 is the Stockholm-Luleå sleeper.
                              7103 is Norrtåg Luleå-Umeå.

@jon It did depart, but I don’t think that tells us anything.

I found a cab view video out of Boden and there’s a power section sign just north before Haparandabanan branches off. This and the fact that Trafikverket only has this one disruption listed which is matching the electrical fault. I would think it’s the correct one.

And if you look at the data for Boden the "Elfel" (electric fault) is only towards Kiruna

I reckon 7185 *could* run, if Norrtåg wants it to. Let's see if they want it to run!

@stefanlindbohm But interestingly there is nothing listed for Haparanda trains that Elfel is the problem.

It is *possible* that they just cancelled the Haparanda one anyway, as they often do, and that the infra would allow it to run.

Anyway I am waiting to see if 7185 does run as a train...

And if you look at the data for Boden the "Elfel" (electric fault) is only towards Kiruna

I reckon 7185 *could* run, if Norrtåg wants it to. Let's see if they want it to run!

@jon Could also be that Trafikverket forgot to mention the Haparanda line. Sounds unlikely, but time will tell.

7185 does run on the iron ore line for a bit though!

@gufo Right, exactly. That's what is so hard to estimate. If someone could specify more precisely WHERE the problem is that would help a lot!

@jon I’d also think it’s possible that the disruption code is added based in the line the train is marked as running on, but that the power section just slightly extends into the junction. Then maybe the Haparanda trains don’t automatically get the code.

Someone in an operations centre will be needed indeed 🙂
