    Alright folks, it looks like the #1Password execs aren't budging. Their co-founder is framing critics of DHH as calling him "evil," saying this is "unfair" and creating a chilling environment. This is a nonsense response to critique of a man who has called for ethnic cleansing. https://www.theverge.com/tech/988536/1password-dhh-linux-controversy

    It's time to #Drop1Password. Cancel your subscription and share a screenshot. Tell them why you're cancelling. You will not lose access to your service until your subscription expires, giving the 1Password team the opportunity to reverse their sponsorship and/or you time to migrate.

    @ehashman @Viss I left 1Password in the dust over a year ago, for a variety of reasons that predated any of this drama. It was a pain, because there was no good export/import path, and because there was a lot of really old junk from ten years of use in the database, but an hour or two a day in the evening for a week got it all sorted. I’m glad I went to the effort.

      @thomasareed @ehashman i started out on 1pw because when i got hired at twitter it was a forced thing. every staff member was made to use it, and it did legitimately raise the bar for attackers. everything went to shit when they started forcing cloud

        @Viss @ehashman I got into it for similar reasons… it was used by Malwarebytes when I joined, and a subscription was provided for personal use. Over the years, though, 1Password went downhill - forcing people into their cloud storage, for example, and the enshittification of their browser extension, and the same with their app becoming Electron instead of native code. So when Malwarebytes laid me off after ten years, rather than paying for a 1Password subscription myself for a now crappy product, I switched.

          @ahhhhhhhhhhh @scott @ehashman

          How does that work keeping siblings from accessing other accounts. As a kid, computer accounts weren't a thing (I'm old).

          I would not have wanted to share email or other account passwords with my sibs.

            @w_b @scott @ehashman You have a master password and you give passwords to your family to access only certain entries... At least I thought you could do that. I usually throw a keyfile in too so then the service provider I'm using to synchronise can't access the database if they are forced to hand it over by 3 letter agencies.

                @scott @w_b @ehashman I mean... I do. I run a nightly Borg backup that then is rsynced to my cloud provider. But yes you're right its the classic seesaw of pros and cons. I run off spite which is an amazing motivator in this current tech climate

                  @ehashman You also don’t lose access when your subscription runs out. Your vaults just become read-only, so can keep them around as you continue to migrate.

                    @ehashman Guess this means I need to stop procrastinating switching to bitwarden

                    I have been using Bitwarden for a while and I am happy with it.

                      @ehashman and do mention not only the direct fash thing with DHH, but also that 1password is committing “AI” slop into their software
