Yeah, I know what a data center is. I fucking work in this fucking industry, I have been working in data centers for over 25 years now. I am not against data centers.

I am against AI data centers. I am against mega data centers. The data centers we need to maintain the Internet and established, useful technologies draws a tiny fraction of the resources AI data centers consume.

I'm not against technology, I'm against AI. We don't need AI. AI is a net negative technologically, socially, economically, and environmentally.

im tired of that i cant do literally anything without having to wade thru discussions about it, so even if not involved myself now 40% of my feed is either people succumbing to it, apologising for it or railing against it, and irl 40% of my conversations are now either people trying to push me to use it, or who want head pats for something they "made" or me having to explain why i dont wanna goddamn hear about it or use it.  i wish it would just fuck off into the sun and it never be mentioned again.

On Youtube, the AI-generated content is everywhere, and people don't even recognize it. Even when it is pointed out to them, many deny it.

AI companies can only continue to ignore the reality of the situation until they need to fork over hard cash for buildings, gensets, and servers. We already see how well this is going for oracle. Their cost of borrowing has gone up monumentally.

And that might be the thing about them that pisses me off the most: the utter hypocrisy. They vacuum up every bit of content they can find, while simultaneously screaming “INFRINGEMENT” if you dare do the same.

@nuintari I drove past the two Montgomery County hyperscale data center projects in central Missouri about a month ago. Both projects take up one square mile of prime farm land. I was completely stunned by the size and scale when I drove by them on the Interstate for the first time. When it takes nearly a minute to go past them at 70 MPH, something is definitely wrong. I think a lot of people just can't comprehend the scale of these massive projects.

These two have each done this a couple of times and both times it was complete garbage that wasted my time. I'm also having some success getting my 10 year old nephew to realize they are a waste of his time.
