"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."The exact moment when this is materialized:
Ripley: Ash, that transmission... Mother's deciphered part of it. It doesn't look like an S.O.S.Ash: What is it, then?
Ripley: Well, I... it looks like a warning. I'm gonna go out after them.
Ash: What's the point? I mean by the-the time it takes to get there, you'll... they'll know if it's a warning or not, yes?
-
@Natasha_Jay otherwise great review but how it can get only four stars? It's one of best scifi movies ever.
@cos @Natasha_Jay Roger Ebert only has a four-star scale.
-
@Natasha_Jay There are two more sequels of people not listening to her, too!
@catraxx @Natasha_Jay Three, the Assembly Cut was alright.

Until a few seconds ago, i was rather convinced that Sigourey Weaver was already dead for a few years . I'm pleased to learn she's not. 🤩@messieass @Natasha_Jay So, like, what did you do?
-
@messieass @Natasha_Jay So, like, what did you do?
@vonxylofon@witter.cz @Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt
Oh, just some silly dancing around a fire in that forest over there... -
"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."@Natasha_Jay How'd the cat survive? I KNOW it wouldn't have listened to her, cats never do.
-
@vonxylofon@witter.cz @Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt
Oh, just some silly dancing around a fire in that forest over there...@messieass @Natasha_Jay That was actually Ron Johner's line to which Ripley replies "I died."

"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."@Natasha_Jay yes, and it is a movie, not a reality. In reality, smart persons are mostly ignored regardless of sex.
-
"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."@Natasha_Jay its more than that
its the first film that passed the Bechdel test
two named women had a conversation on screen thats NOT about a man
-
"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."@Natasha_Jay I thought for a second that this post was about a remake of Alien and I was like “No”!!!!!
-
@Natasha_Jay The script was famously written without gender roles, but nevermind.
@kolya @Natasha_Jay to be fair, that alone was pretty revolutionary in the 80's
-
@Natasha_Jay Someone basically said the Alien movie is similar to needing an abortion. (https://chaos.social/@thefinalstrawradio/117422516493021781)
Prometheus was even more explicitly that. The female protagonist has an alien monster in her womb and asks the robot doctor for an abortion. The robodoc says it's only programmed for men!
She has to improvise...
-
@Natasha_Jay i totally forgot about the cat
Yeah I don't think the franchise ever followed up about the cat. Was he also frozen for 50 years? How is he doing now?
-
"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."@Natasha_Jay Looks like a cat, but it's actually a Flerken

@kolya @Natasha_Jay to be fair, that alone was pretty revolutionary in the 80's
@Gabs @Natasha_Jay
still revolutionary today, considering all others have come up with, is to replace the gendered hero with a gendered heroine. -
"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."@Natasha_Jay Did not read review. Too busy dying.
-
@Natasha_Jay yes, and it is a movie, not a reality. In reality, smart persons are mostly ignored regardless of sex.
@OndrejZizka @Natasha_Jay thanks for bringing up the plight of white men, famously known for being ignored by government and industry

"Alien is a movie where nobody listens to the smart woman, and then they all die except for the smart woman and her cat.
Four () stars."@Natasha_Jay also a good film about why decon protocols should be adhered to.
