“PIRATING” IS A CAPITALIST FRAME

@blogdiva piracy is one of the thing that makes me believe in the good and collective nature of people
it's pretty communist, tbh.
@athousandcateaus@tiggi.es @blogdiva@mastodon.social don't call it that, pig

“PIRATING” IS A CAPITALIST FRAME
don’t be a cop.
If buying isn't ownership then p̶i̶r̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ SHARING isn't stealing
If buying doesn't create ownership, then p̶i̶r̶a̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ SHARING doesn't destroy it.
SHARING is anticapitalist and antifa because sharing is caring.
@blogdiva I may have said out loud in one of the classes that I teach: it’s not wrong to steal (share) from unethical capitalist companies.

What would be even more anti-capitalist would be to boycott privative culture en masse and let Big Media go bankrupt. But so many social interactions and cultural references have been steadily wrapped by the market around the entertainment industry, that fully boycotting them is practically considered a social suicide nowadays. -

@blogdiva Seriously. How dare creators expect to be paid for their work?
-
@blogdiva i'm not pirating i'm just training my model.
(it me. i'm the model.)
@neurovagrant @blogdiva the term "large language model" is a technically valid way to describe our mental framework of how language works.

@csolisr but the opposite is true. anyone who participates in killing bad faith companies this way I recognise as an elite human being whose voice I will always listen to over others for LIFE.

@blogdiva well said. this is a good approach to punish exploitative publishers for existing.
but for self-published independent creators, paying them is something we should all be proud to do.
"piracy" was never a relevant word. Teach didn't go around making copies of recovered resources. piracy is just stealing.
but you cannot steal from an exploiter because an exploiter has no right to exist. so yeah, help yourself to everything any exploitative publisher has. it is free for all.

@blogdiva I called into a WNYC talkshow when Napster was being taken to court and made a similar argument about piracy/sharing not being a crime. They thought I was crazy. Admittedly my argument sounded better in my head until I opened my mouth, live on air.

@blogdiva I believe that knowledge should be free and open. At the same time, I also believe that authors and creators should be compensated for their work.
I pirate not because of moral high ground, but because everything is so gosh darn expensive now.
Which is why I find it crazy that that billion dollar companies ~~pirate knowledge~~ train their models and sell their services for profit

@blogdiva that's true, but also if I wanted to demonize sharing, I wouldn't give it a super badass name like "pirating" so that's capitalism's fault to make us look cool.

@blogdiva i wholeheartedly agree with you, but also I've always wanted to be a pirate and SHARING is probably my best chance to get anywhere close to that.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social the moment you make a statement like “if buying isn’t ownership…” you are implying that there is a world where piracy could be wrong or immoral. digital assets can be freely duplicated therefore they can’t be stolen, don’t give any concessions

@blogdiva All the fucking authors who publish there are.
@farbel i’d rather pay them directly than give wonky Luthor a cut.
am not against making money. am against having to get a pittance so that a fucking fascist piece of shit can have another yatch to traffic children.
seriously, we don't need fucking capitalists make money out of our fucking labor, but it is much, much harder nowadays after the fucking bailouts.
techbros killed p2p because they are the new bankster middlemen. so either we reinvent p2p or guillotine them.
it’s come to that.
