Went to two large #fabric shops in #Toronto this afternoon, just 200 meters apart, and these stores aren’t even in the fashion district.

Went to two large #fabric shops in #Toronto this afternoon, just 200 meters apart, and these stores aren’t even in the fashion district. We’re very lucky to have so many great fabric and #sewing shops here in Toronto!
(There’s also a Fabricland store across the street from these two shops, but I refuse to go there anymore because their service is beyond atrocious. Never worth it.)

I didn’t find the 2” foam I was looking for because they were sold out of the size I needed. It was too expensive anyways; I think I may make those window cushions using repurposed poly fill from old stuffed animals after all… https://mastodon.social/@DanielMenjivar/116279938451943011
But I did get some black nylon #spandex #fabric at $34 for two yards to make a less translucent #bodysuit https://mastodon.social/@DanielMenjivar/116206755573137605 as well as $7.50 for ½ yard of some shiny brocade jacquard fabric to make my dog some more bowties!

@DanielMenjivar Good grief that's gigantic, I would get brain overload in there for sure. The biggest one I've been in is the Milwaukie Mill End Store https://www.millendstore.com/

@kelleynnn 50,000 square feet (according to their website) is indeed quite big!
My favourite fabric store, and the one I shop at most often, is probably the biggest one in the city. Great prices, amazing staff but bad lighting. https://fabric-fabric.com

I visted there on my trip through #pdx, but I don't believe that any fabric there really caught my eye. I fared far better at Bolt Neighborhood Fabric Store. Bigger isn't always better. I also bought a brilliant purple 2 yard square of wool blanketing from Pendleton Mills' warehouse in Portland. Keeping me toasty warm every night that I need it!

#sewing@EllenInEdmonton @kelleynnn @DanielMenjivar Both Bolt and Josephine's Dry Goods have very well curated fabric offerings. We're lucky to have them in town (and Pendleton as well, natch).

Started — and finished — a nice and easy, quick #sewing project last week: a silver brocade bowtie for my dog. If you can sew three rectangles, you can make this too!
I hope to eventually do a YouTube livestream of this one day, but I still need to set up all my A/V and lighting equipment in my sewing room again after our move last year. @sewing

My #sewing construction method with these dog bowties might make you want to pull out your hair, but I’m used to it.
I make these in such a way that *no seams* are ever visible, just the fabric on its own. It takes a lot longer than it would otherwise, but for certain fabrics, I like the look.
I also make them so that the snap attaches (and hides) behind the bowtie, giving a seamless look to the collar portion. @sewing

…and here’s my #ServiceDog modelling his new bowtie for you! #sewing @sewing
Yes, he badly needs a haircut, but I’ve intentionally let his hair get this long. Asking him to sit through multiple grooming sessions with a torn CCL seems cruel, so I’ve let it grow for now and just trim his bangs as needed. He also won’t be able to stand for long periods for several months after his upcoming TPLO surgery, so I’m going to shave his hair — once — closer to his surgery. #dogs #DogsOfMastodon

@Giliell He ate the last one!? That doesn’t sound good, hopefully he’s okay!

@DanielMenjivar just some of the cotton fabric. He's still quite young and a big chewer. We can mostly redirect to rope toys
