Conversation at family dinner: how do you hold your foot when you cut your toenails?
-
@deadDuck One foot on bathroom floor, other foot on bathroom sink. Cut the toenails on the sink
Gender = bi -
@deadDuck I (F) put a foot up on the (closed) toilet seat and stand while trimming one set of toenails, then swap feet and do the other. Clippings are then swept into the bin from the lid. So technically knee up, but not heel to butt... more like chest to thigh.
Spouse (M) says he sits on the closed toilet seat and dangles his toes over the bin so the trimmings fall (ideally) directly into it, so yeah, knee up and heel to butt.
-
@deadDuck female same deal as @SnyperWolf unless I cut them on the porch then it's foot on railing.
-
@deadDuck Heel to butt, AMAB enby.
I need my toes to be flat and straight, why the hell would I cut them ankle over knee, all twisted?
Men are not ok. -
@deadDuck I mean, sometimes I lift my foot more up to desk level than just on my knee, so I can get it in the light and see it (not actually on my desk, but on my cat's near-desk cozy spot)
And my assigned gender was F but my practicing gender is M
-
@deadDuck I do both
-
@deadDuck @Bowreality The "heel to butt" position sounds like the one you'd use if you were putting nail polish on your toes, and would need to keep your foot horizontal & steady while getting a clear view, with both hands in a controlled access. So I wonder if the influencing factor is not gender directly but whether or not someone paints their toenails.
(For myself, it sounds awfully uncomfortable given the size of all the body parts that would have to collapse together! I'm ankle-over-knee, foot extending over waste bin. But I also have no patience for nail polish.)
-
@deadDuck I do both
@cameron29 At the same time? Alternating left and right? Or as the mood takes you?
-
@deadDuck female, foot on toilet seat, clippings go in. So closer to the (maybe?) typical female position, but with a twist.
(If that grosses anyone out, I'm truly sorry. Imo it's just logical.)

@AmeliasBrain @Bowreality You could very well be right! Maybe a gendered thing, but only indirectly.

@deadDuck I just do which ever works best some days it one some it’s the other and some days its both

Ambivalent gender, assorted positions for toenail clipping
Why do it the same way all the time?
I hurt my back badly this year, so my most frequent position recently is butt on wheelchair, one foot on floor, heel of other foot up on the bed

@NilaJones Yikes, that sounds like a pain. Has it been difficult adjusting? Has your back recovered?

Yes, and no. I hurt it in April and it gets a little better when I do less and then worse again when I do more. It's pretty frustrating and I don't really know what to do about it
-
@deadDuck Male. I had to think hard about what "heel to butt even meant." Looks like I follow what your family thinks of us men.

Yea, toilet, tub, heck sink if I'm feeling bendy… Or sitting on my bed with like a towel or something… HEEL TO BUTT?! How is that even supposed to work?!

@alisynthesis @deadDuck Exactly my method!
-
@deadDuck I think it has to do with flexibility.
-
@deadDuck
Either, at random - sometimes one way with one foot and the other way with the other foot. (My name/pronoun buttons say they/them/any) -
@deadDuck Femme-Nonbinary, also have hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrom which is likely relevant for my answer:
I hook my leg over my arm/shoulder.
