@matnis @eriksandblomdane here. i talk to many who are scared of #cycling because of #cars.either they've been attacked or threatened themselves, or they know someone who was hurt badly by #carviolence. many drivers in their increasingly huge #SUVs are distracted by their phones.a colleague of mine was struck from the side by a van that illegally didn't yield. the driver rushed out to check if his car had any scratches, but didn't bother checking on the cyclist he hit. that's the #copenhagen mentality.the relentless #victimblaming doesn't help either. #cops will always call it an "accidental #accident" or a "bicycle accident" as if the bicycle is at fault when some distracted driver crushes them. or "the cyclist wasn't wearing a helmet," as the newspapers always write it.sure, #bicycle paths can be crowded — but the reason the space gets so tight on there is that most of the city space is dedicated to the less space-efficient vehicles.blaming #ebikes (instead of cars) for less bikable cities is like blaming refugees for your rent being too high (instead of landlords), or yelling at a wheelchair user for taking up all the pavement space.
