    NEW: John Roberts likes being political. He just doesn't like the accountability that comes with it.

    Roberts complained Wednesday that people view the justices as "political actors." They are, though, issuing political decisions that have real-world consequences.

      @chrisgeidner There's a lot of "it's unseemly to hold me accountable for my actions or, indeed, even judge my actions in the first place" coming out of Justice Roberts these days.

        @chrisgeidner Who could have imagined that overturning decades of settled law in service to business interests, white Christian supremacy and a demented pedophile dictator might be seen as political?

          @chrisgeidner he is a disgrace to the profession. There is nothing that can undo his legacy of being a fascist enabler and destroyer of constitutionally protected voting rights. When the right talked about activist judges, they were talking about him.

            @chrisgeidner he gets away with so much because of his calm demeanor. It's a lie. He's every bit as bad as Thomas.

                @chrisgeidner of course he is a political actor. He was a member of the Brooks Brothers Riot

                  @chrisgeidner What accountability will he actually face - a couple of strongly worded op-eds, maybe the odd frown at a beltway get-together? The problem is that literally 'breaking' the law for political ends offers no consequences of any substance, which is why people like Roberts continue to act as they do and gaslight when its pointed out. Until that changes; until oaths actually mean something and people lose position, privilege and power when they act in bad faith, nothing will change

                    @chrisgeidner Something like ninety percent of the conservative project is "privileged people need the right to avoid feeling bad about their actions making the world worse" at this point.

                      @chrisgeidner “How dare you call us political,” he posted from the dinner table at the White House.

                        @chrisgeidner

                        The MAGA SCOTUS majority's penchant for making up whatever legal mumbo jumbo they need to arrive at the result they want on cases they care about is 100% political no matter how many crocodile tears Roberts & co. shed.
                        And it's not like it's hard to know which cases these are.
                        Folks like Chris, Prof. Steve Vladeck and the trio of Strict Scrutiny Profs routinely pick apart their lawless, abjectly political decisions.
