Someone should write a manual "How to dissemble democracy".
1. Have the established political parties emulate the far right and invite them into government. (Ask von Papen about that).
2 Create a class of super wealthy oligarchs.
3. Leave the public sphere in the hands of foreign owned oligarch media

We had a good run after 1945 when the horrors of war, the death of millions and total destruction were present in the minds of everyone. We tried to create a society based on ideals of social equality and human dignity to never again wind up where we were. But memories fade and the elites no longer feel a sense of responsibility and/or dread.

@humanhorseshoes yes, its been tried and tested to emulate and move politically closer to the far right. This makes them stronger and weakens the democratic right. This is known. Its been tested and proven.
Its also been tested and proven to fight the far right through social justice and social reforms. That works. But then you can't hobnob with the billionaires du jour. No fancy lobbying money and special invitations come your way doing that.

@leanderlindahl The rule of law in the EU needs to be enforced to retain credibility as many laws are discarded in favour of local norms and workarounds. Freedom of movement looks great on paper but it is an absolute nightmare in some countries to actually assert.
