How stupid is Windows?

How stupid is Windows? This stupid: It's a documented feature that you can open a file by selecting it & hitting enter - but if you select multiple files & they're not the same file type (e.g. Doc, PowerPoint), this feature simply fails silently.
The OS just does nothing.
With almost 4 decades of experience, this scenario either didn't occur to anyone or they decided to just ignore it.

@jwcph Is is that they're not the same filetype, or that they're not associated to the same application (as some applications can handle more than one). If it's the last maybe associate them all with your own application that calls them all individually?
