So the UK Met Office is inviting people to suggest up to 5 names for storms. And apparently lots of people have been suggesting "Storm Bigoil", along with BP, Equinor, Exxon & Shell... @MarkHoltom Well, the MetOffice have asked for it : “ Is your grandma a force of nature? Does your best friend cause an impact wherever they go? Now you can give them the recognition they deserve, by naming a storm after them.” “Impact”… yeah, Dave or Amy don’t really hit the mark, do they?

@MarkHoltom Totally didn’t use Shell, BP, Equinor, Total and Mobil, and totally didn’t give ”human-caused climate change by consumption of fossil fuels” as the reason!

@MarkHoltom Exxon is a slightly odd choice, given that their main brand in the UK is Esso.

The super rich have been resisting aggressive measures for combating climate change for decades, mostly because they feel they have more to lose preventing climate change than enduring the changes such as serious storms.These mild names might remind the super rich that they might not live long enough to endure climate change.

The staff at the met office, of all places, are very well placed to understand the effects of global warming.
I personally think, with this contest, they know exactly what they're doing.
