I had Jehovah's Witnesses round this morning (not a very common occurrence round here).
Them: "Do you ever think about the future?"
Me: "I'm a climate scientist, I think it about the future all the time.."
@Ruth_Mottram Did they hiss and retreat at the “s” word? They did for me when I was in college and I told them I studied geology.

@Ruth_Mottram when I lived way in the country with cats sheep and my toddler daughter, 2 just knocked in the door at the moment I was cooing the last 54 pounds of tomatoes to can. Aspirin doing red, large cleaver in hand i opened the door. They stared and asked if I'd heard the good news. I looked behind me and looked back at them and said "I'm not done with the kids, can you come back in an hour?"
Finally, I had the right words at the right time. They left very quickly and quietly. -
@Ruth_Mottram In a former neighborhood, Scientologists often would come up to me on the street and ask if I'd like to take a personality test. I replied, "no thanks, I already have one."

@Ruth_Mottram I had a couple of Mormons come to my door. I said "I'm really glad to see you, I just finished reading your book (I really had) and I have some questions. Wait here, I'll go grab it." At which point they looked at me in shock, and begged off saying they would put me in touch with an elder. Never saw or heard from them again.

@Ruth_Mottram Kinda funny when you think about how many times JW tried to predict the future and failed miserably
