    Just imagine what £72M could do if the people donating it actually wanted to make life better for people in the UK instead of further their own interests. That could save a couple of libraries, be invested in renewal energy, retrofit some council houses or, you know, get donated to a party that wasn't stoking fear of "mass migration" and encouraging its followers to threaten lifeboat volunteers and council road workers and destroy traffic lights.

      Just imagine what £72M could do if the people donating it actually wanted to make life better for people in the UK instead of further their own interests. That could save a couple of libraries, be invested in renewal energy, retrofit some council houses or, you know, get donated to a party that wasn't stoking fear of "mass migration" and encouraging its followers to threaten lifeboat volunteers and council road workers and destroy traffic lights.

      This is why we should tax billionaires out of existence, not just for the revenue, to constrain the disproportionate political power they have relative to everyone else.

        @afewbugs I am a big fan of the perspective that one of the most important reasons to confiscate excessive wealth from private individuals, is to make sure they can't purchase too much labor and direct that towards their own selfish goals and away from what's useful to society.
