Can I get a sanity check people. I’m new to #mastodon #fediverse #forkiverse and I specifically want to stay in our warm and fuzzy cocoon (at least for now). I’m using the web client (which works very well), viewing Live feeds / This server and I’ve followed only #forkiverse users hoping that this will populate the feed with fellow Forkers only. Yes, yes I'll branch out later. Thoughts?

@greenboo That will largely work. But I think preventing your posts from escaping the #Forkiverse is impossible. As is stopping us great unwashed from replying. (I won't bother you again.)

My thought? You're missing out on a lot of fun, mate! Follow some hashtags like #caturday or #PortfolioDay or #silentsunday . Even stuff like #Bloomscrolling or #Mosstodon if you care for those things. I've learnt that hashtags and lists are crucial for a life without algorithms. But you have full control and can do so at your own pace. And if you need tips, @FediTips is a nice resource. Enjoy the ride! -

If you're watching your Live Feed that's
/public/local
as a web address
Note: public
It's the public content known to all the people your local (Forkiverse) instance knows of, which can be a minor firehose after your instance knows more and more of the big picture visible to it
That said, Home is probably what you want
Home is People you Follow, their Boosts, and Hashtags *you* Follow

About who to follow, that's totally up to you!
By the way, you don't need to "hope" the feed will do something, the feed is totally in your control and will only show whatever you ask it to. It'll show all the posts from all the accounts you follow, plus any posts those accounts share, plus posts from any hashtags and groups you follow.
