We need to make "Measure of a Man" required watching in schools STAT. Because that dream, the one the NEO robot is lying about fulfilling? It's the dream of having a slave. A fully intelligent, sentient, pleasant, polite, friendly, strong humanoid being completely subservient to your every command. It's fucking disgusting & kids need to learn to see it for what it is, because this is just the first of these offerings.

Brownlee is being too generous when he says these companies are selling the dream *before* the product - because they know they'll never deliver the product. They're banking (literally) on awkwardly ambling in the general direction of the product for as long as people believe it enough to make money & then, oops, the company is suddenly bankrupt while backers & founders walk away with the cash & the customers & small investors get fuck-all.

Also-also, let's add "Ready Player One" to the curriculum - because NEO's "Expert Mode" is literally IOI with robots. this company already knows it will be easier & cheaper to shanghai poor people into remote-controlling these robots for rich people, than develop a fully autonomous robot. They're using this first (pretend?) launch to test how the world reacts to a robot on a remote operator & unless they're absolutely wrecked over it... well, see: Slavery, again.

Albeit slavery where you can kill your master and probably get away with it because you're on the other side of the world and it'll be hard to prove you're the one who did it.
Or anyway, *someone* can kill the owner of the robot remotely. The security is going to be dogshit and probably vibe-coded.

True. How much of a hold they have on you in your real life would be a big deciding factor. However, it's risky. Twitter fully established how thin the grip of social norms is to enforce pro-social behaviour over an internet connection.
